How to Effectively Rig for Sheepshead

November 02, 2013 1 min read 5 Comments

Here is a tutorial explaining how to rig for sheepshead utilizing very little hardware to prevent snagging on obstruction such as barnacles, oysters etc... The rig consist of a number 1 or 1/0 SSW Owner hook, a 20lb mono-filament leader tied directly to 10 -15lb braid via a Uni-knot and a size two or three split shot. The fixed sinker method will help prevent getting hung up. I like to use just enough lead to reach the bottom.

This simple rig has worked for me on all quadrants of the state. 9 feet of water or less and it will work for you too.
