Here is a short tutorial on how to use the whip or whipping tool to finish your knots when fly tying. Use the hook to grab the thread; wrap the thread into the grove at the bottom of the whipping tool. Turn the tool to where it is parallel with the hook, creating a triangle or figure four shape. Make four to five wraps over the thread and shaft of the hook. Push the whip tool forward allowing the thread to slide off of the groove, and pull the bobbin tight with your left hand; removing all slack. At last, remove the hook from the loop creating a strong finish to the knot.
